In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, the next chapter is currently streaming on Disney+ and the galaxy is watching. REWATCH RECAP S7E1 The Bad Batch “Embrace others for their differences, for that makes you whole.” Rex and Cody recruit Clone Force 99, the Bad Batch to help take down Admiral Trench S7E2 A Distant Echo: “The search for truth begins with belief.” Rex believes Echo may still be alive and it is up to the Bad Batch to find him. S7E3 On the Wings of Keeradaks: “Survival is one step on the path to living.” Echo, Rex and Anakin must escape with the Bad Batch out of a Separatist base. S7E4 Unfinished Business: “Trust placed in another is trust earned.” The Republic brings down Admiral Trench. S7E5 Gone with a Trace: “If there is no path before you, create your own.” Ahsoka must find herself in the lower trenches of Coruscant. S7E6 Deal or No Deal: “Mistakes are valuable lessons often learned too late.” A deal with the Pyke Syndicate goes sour when the crew dumps the spice. S7E7 Dangerous Debt: “Who you were does not have to define who you are.” Ahsoka learns about the Martez sisters’ past while trying to escape. S7E8 Together Again: “You can change who you are, but you cannot run from yourself.” Ahsoka is pulled back in to the galactic conflict and her jedi past. S7E9-12 The Siege of Mandalore: Ep: Old Friends Not Forgotten, Phantom Apprentice, Shattered, and Victory and Death. As Ahsoka leads a siege on Mandalore and capturing Maul, Anakin falls to the dark side and Darth Sidious executes Order 66. CONNECTING THE CANON Throughout the series we see characters like Caleb Dume, Ursa Wren and Gar Saxxon who all appear in Star Wars Rebels. The events of the finale cross over with “Revenge of the Sith” showing multiple points of view that aren’t seen in the film. The first eight episodes had already been put in production and released to the public, however some small things did change from the original versions. BEST OF THE BATCH The best arc of this season is obviously the Siege of Mandalore. It was made to feel like a movie, and it ties in perfectly with “Revenge of the Sith.” The four-episode conclusion brings us to the end of the Galactic Republic and into the Empire, bridging the gap between Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Clone Wars. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+ in February 2020. The galaxy will be watching. Following the epic season five saga that saw Darth Maul's rise, command of Mandalore, and fall against Darth Sidious, "Son of Dathomir" is a limited comic book run that sees Darth Maul on the run from Sidious, Grievous and Count Dooku. We see the end of Mother Talzin and watch as Maul becomes a crime lord working in the shadows. This leads up to "Solo: A Star Wars Story." "Dark Disciple" is another batch of episodes that didn't get to see the light. However, it feels very natural to have this story told in book form. Asaj Ventress has fallen from Count Dooku's grace and when she is hired by the Jedi Order to take part in an assassination attempt towards Dooku, However, this story sees Ventress fall in love and brings her story to a close. Still, I hope we see at least a cameo from Ventress in season seven. "Ahsoka" is set after the fall of the republic and deals with Ahsoka on the run from the empire. She grieves the fallen Jedi and eventually becomes essential to the rise of The Rebellion. The prelude of this novel is set during the Siege of Mandalore which we expect to see in its full form in February when Ahsoka returns to "The Clone Wars." "Thrawn: Alliances" is the sequel in a trilogy of Thrawn novels by Timothy Zahn. While half of this novel takes place during the height of The Empire, the half has Anakin, Padme and Thrawn on a mission at the edge of the galaxy, Batuu. This does well at connecting "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars: Rebels." Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always.

REWATCH RECAP S6E8 The Disappeared “Without darkness there can be no light.” Jar Jar is summoned to the peaceful world of Bardotta to stop its spiritual leaders from vanishing. Mace Windu accompanies Binks to the planet where Jar Jar reconnects with an old friend. S6E9 The Disappeared Part 2: “Wisdom is born in fools as well as wise men.” Jar Jar goes after Queen Julia upon her disappearance. S6E10 The Lost One: “What is lost is often found.” Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas went missing before the blockade of Naboo. Sifo-Dyas was crucial to creating an army for the republic. Now his ship has been found with no body inside. S6E11 Voices: “Madness can sometimes be the path to truth.” Yoda is contacted by the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn. The Jedi council worries that this is a trick from the dark side however, Yoda follows the voice to Dagobah where he learns the name of the Sith Lord. S6E12 Destiny: “Death is just the beginning.” Yoda’s journey continues as he is tested by the Priestesses of the force. Yoda faces his inner demons and desires. S6E13 Sacrifice: “Facing all that you fear will free you from yourself.” Yoda’s final destination is the Sith Homeworld of Moraband where he must face The Dark Side like never before. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker The Jar Jar episodes are based off of Indiana Jones. Mother Talzin is in the episode although her motivations are unclear. Possibly a last ditch effort to become powerful again. She is next seen in the “Son of Dathomir” comic. In “The Lost One” the Jedi find out that the Clone army was created by Darth Tyranus and Master Sifo-Dyas. This is the first time that they learn that Darth Tyranus is actually Count Dooku. The Jedi decide to cover up this fact and play the Sith’s game, which eventually leads to the Jedi’s fall. Liam Neeson returns as Qui-Gon Jinn again. Yoda can be seen meditating in the Jedi courtyard near the force tree. Yoda recounts the events of Mortis. I loved the animation of the time-lapse while the Jedi meditated. We also get to see Dagobah which is tying the series more closely to the original trilogy. This is the second time we get to see the Jedi temple guards which play a role in “Rebels.” R2 was with Yoda when he traveled to Dagobah. The things that R2 knows is fascinating and I hope that comes into play in “Rise of Skywalker.” In Yoda’s vision he sees Mace Windu being electrocuted by Darth Sidious and the fall of the Jedi. This is only one of three times we have seen a force vision from the cave on Dagobah. Mark Hamill guest stars as Darth Bane. Jaime King is the voice of the Priestesses. Yoda comes face to face with the darkness inside him. Sacrifice is the first appearance of Moraband, the Sith Homeworld. Ahsoka is only seen in one scene this entire season. She is seen alongside other fallen Padawans. It’s heartbreaking to know that Yoda longs for peace and to see Obi-Wan, Dooku and Qui-Gon together again. We learn more about Darth Bane and the rule of two. Darth Sidious uses a dark magic that we see again in "Rebels." Yoda is told that there is another Skywalker and he hopes to win the overall battle if not the Clone Wars. The season ends like season five with a quiet wipe. I hope season seven does too. Maybe season seven will connect to The Rise of Skywalker. BEST OF THE BATCH
The obvious MVP of this batch, this season, and maybe even the entire series is the Yoda Arc. It is essential viewing for any Star Wars fan, and it is so important to the lore, the story and the Skywalker Saga. The episodes are so dense with force visions and prophecy. It’s everything a fan could have wanted. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always. S6E3 Fugitive: “When in doubt, go to the source.” Fives discovers the truth of Order 66. S6E4 Orders: “The popular belief isn’t always the correct one.” Fives learns that the secret of the clone’s inhibitor chips goes all the way to the top. S6E5 An Old Friend: “To love, is to trust. To trust is to believe.” Padme is called upon by Rush Clovis to help uncover corruption in the Banking Clan. S6E6 The Rise of Clovis: “Jealousy is the path to chaos.” Clovis makes a deal that puts him at the head of the Banking Clan. Anakin’s jealousy strains his relationship with Padme. S6E7 Crisis at the Heart: “Deceit is the weapon of greed.” War comes to Scipio and the banking clan falls. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Season six of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” was released on Netflix on March 7, 2014. This was the first appearance of Admiral Trench since the beginning of the series. Tim Curry is now the voice of Chancellor Palpatine and it sounds a little weird. This is the first time we learn the extent of who knew about Order 66. The character appearances are nearly identical to “Revenge of the Sith” at this point. The banking clan episodes show how fragile the galaxy has become. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. S5E18 Jedi Who Knew Too Much: “Courage begins by trusting oneself.” Ahsoka is sabotages for the Jedi temple bombing. S5E19 To Catch a Jedi: “Never become desperate enough to trust the untrustworthy.” Ahsoka is a fugitive on the run. S5E20 The Wrong Jedi: “Never give up hope, no matter how dark things seem.” Ahsoka faces a senate trial. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker In “Sabotage” the boiling point to this war is starting. Opposition against the clones and the Jedi have people rioting in the streets. The Jedi guards, Tooka cats and more can be seen in this batch of episodes. These are all elements that return in “Star Wars: Rebels.” Tarkin and Ventress both return for these episodes. The Republic looks nearly identical to the Empire at this point. Ahsoka’s story is what makes “The Clone Wars” perfect. Fans don’t deserve her. We can see that the Jedi and the Sith aren’t so black and white. BEST OF THE BATCH When scheduling out this rewatch I wanted to make sure that Ahsoka’s initial finale, her arc, wasn’t pushed up against any other stories. These last four episodes are so strong and important to the last decade of Star Wars storytelling. Back in 2013 we thought this was the end of The Clone Wars. No one expected it to come back with a season six and now the upcoming seventh season. Back in 2013, we thought this was the end of Ahsoka. Then she returned in a novel, in “Rebels” and in multiple stories. We had a lot of unanswered questions, but no one could deny that this ending was emotional and perfectly contrived. The entire batch is great, but there is no scene more inspired than the last shot of Ahsoka walking away from the Jedi Order. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. REWATCH RECAP S5E12 Missing in Action: “A soldier’s most powerful weapon is courage.” The D-Squad finds a town in the void where they enlist the help of a clone command who can’t remember where he came from. They must steel a separatist ship to escape the planet. S5E13 Point of No Return: “You must trust in others or success is impossible.” The D-Squad meet up with a Republic cruiser but soon realize that the ship is a separatist trap, a bomb armed to trick Republic officers. S5E1 Revival: “Strength in character can defeat strength in numbers.” Maul has returned from the dead and he is fueled by rage and a need for revenge. His vengeance crosses paths with Hondo Ohnaka and Obi-Wan. S5E14 Eminence: “One vision can have many interpretations.” Pre Vizsla and the rest of Death Watch rescue Maul and Savage from their encounter with Kenobi. Maul creates a criminal empire with Black Sun, the Pykes and the Hutts. S5E15 Shades of Reason: “Alliances can stall true intentions.” Maul’s plan for Mandalore begins. Each of the crime syndicates launch attacks across the planet and Death Watch “rescues” the city from the attacks. S5E16 The Lawless: “Morality separates heroes from villains.” Maul uses Duchess Satine as bait to lure Obi-Wan into a trap. Darth Sidious has plans for his former apprentice. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker In “Missing in Action” it says Gregor went missing during The Battle of Sarish, one of the republics most devastating losses. I would definitely like to see more of that battle. The republic cruisers are starting to look a lot more like the Empire’s ships. The explosion of the Republic cruiser is one of the coolest animated shots I’ve seen in this series. Hondo and Maul both return in “Revenge.” Palpatine and Yoda both received redesigns in this episode. This shows how close the series is getting to the events of “Revenge of the Sith.” Ian Ambercrombie passed away and was replaced by Tim Curry for the role of Palpatine. However, Ian Mcdiarmid would later reprise the role in “Rebels” and other performances. John Favreau returns as Pre Vizsla and Katee Sackhoff returns as Bo-Katan The Hutts, Pirates, Death Watch, the Pykes and Black Sun are just a few of the crime syndicates rising to power. Crymorah and later Crimson Dawn were the other crime lords. The Pykes can be seen in “Solo.” Bo-Katan Kryze is revealed to be Duchess Satine Kryze’s sister. Now that Maul rules Mandalore, the armor is green and red, resembling Boba Fett more than Jango Fett. Satine’s death is one of the saddest moments in all of Star Wars. The Son of Dathomir comic follows this arc. We can expect to see more of Darth Maul in season seven of “The Clone Wars” bridging the gap between this and his appearance in “Solo.” BEST OF THE BATCH
Every episode in this batch is perfect. I have to give an honorable mention to the D-Squad arc because it was split between two weeks and was great. This week, Maul’s takeover of Mandalore is the best arc. All four episodes were incredible but “The Lawless” is the best episode of the week, of season five, and possible one of the top ten episodes of the series. There they learn from Yoda how to retrieve their Kyber crystals and participate in The Gathering, a rite of passage that leads to the construction of their lightsabers. S5E7 A Test of Strength: “The young are often underestimated.” The younglings must fight back when Hondo’s gang of pirates board their ship to steal the Kyber Crystals that were collected. S5E8 Bound for Rescue: “When we rescue others, we rescue ourselves.” Ahsoka was captured by Hondo’s pirates and the younglings must work together to rescue her. S5E9 A Necessary Bond: “Choose your enemies wisely, as they may be your last hope.” Hondo must team up with Ahsoka when General Grievous launches an attack on Florum. S5E10 Secret Weapons: “Humility is the only defense against humiliation.” A D-Squad made up of R2 and other droids are tasked with a mission to intercept an attack from General Grievous. S5E11 A Sunny Day in the Void: “Disobedience The D-Squad crash lands on a planet called “The Void” after icy meteors threaten their mission. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker The tests of a youngling and building a lightsaber is something that has rarely been touched on in the Star Wars Universe. I am excited to learn more. David Tenant gust stars as Huyang. I think the scene with the traveling carnival entertaining Hondo was really clever and fun. We finally start to see more of Hondo’s soft side, which has made him a fan favorite character. I want to hear the story about how Yoda retrieved his crystal. Huyang said that it was I would DIE for WAC-47. He is such a cute little droid. Also, Meebur Gascon is too cute! Also, Q2-K2 is wonderful. There is a brief glimpse of a dead Jaxxon rabbit in the void. BEST OF THE BATCH
Because this batch cut the droid arc in half (I’ll continue it next week) that means the youngling arc was the best this week. However, out of all of those episodes, “The Gathering” was the clear favorite. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. S4E22 Revenge: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” In the season four finale, a gruesome spider-legged Maul returns to Dathomir to meet with Mother Talzin. While there, the witch returns the former Sith lord to his former glory. With the help of his brother, Savage Opress, Maul is destined to get his revenge. S5E2 A War on Two Fronts: “Fear is a malleable weapon.” Ahsoka, Rex, Anakin and Obi-Wan travel to Onderon to assist a group of rebels trying to take back the capital city from Separatist control. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Sam Witwer makes a triumphant splash as Darth Maul. Clancy Brown returns as Savage Opress. Maul says, “We shall start with revenge” which foreshadows the rise of his criminal empire, the siege of Mandalore, his control of Crimson Dawn in Solo, and finally, his second fall from grace in Star Wars: Rebels. The season five premiere “Revival” is actually the 13th episode in chronological order. The home release fixes this problem. We see Lux Bonteri again, this time he is teamed up with Saw Gerrera (who later appears in Rogue one and Rebels, played by Forest Whitaker) and his sister, Steela. I’d like to think they are the founders of the rebellion. I’d love to see more of Ahsoka and Lux’s relationship. The capital city is called Iziz but it sounds like Isis. Just saying. Hondo Ohnaka returns in “Tipping Points.” Steela’s death sets a history of rebellion (and sometimes terrosim) in Saw. If it weren’t for this, Saw may not have raised Jyn Erso and the death star plans may not have made it to the rebellion. BEST OF THE BATCH
There is no competition. The return of Maul in “Brothers” and his attack in “Revenge” made for one hour of must-see television and left huge ramifications for the Star Wars universe. Bonteri and Ahsoka get tangled up with the terrorist group Deathwatch. S4E15 Deception: “The General Kenobi fakes his death to go undercover as the bounty hunter Rako Hardeen. Anakin and Ahsoka believes Obi-Wan to be dead while Obi-Wan extracts information from the conspirators on the inside. S4E16 Friends and Enemies: “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.” A disguised Obi-Wan flees across the country with Moralo Eval and Cad Bane. However, they are pursued by Anakin and Ahsoka who still think Obi-Wan is dead. S4E17 The Box: “The strong survive, the noble overcome.” After arriving on Serenno, Count Dooku decides to have the bounty hunters compete to determine who will participate in a plot to kidnap the Chancellor. S4E18 Crisis on Naboo: “Trust is the greatest of gifts, but it must be earned.” Dooku’s plot to kidnap the Chancellor comes to fruition and an undercover Obi-Wan must save the day. S4E19 Massacre: “One must let go of the past to hold on to the future.” Count Dooku launches an attack on Dathomir after learning that Ventress has returned to take up the mantle of a true Night Sister. S4E20 Bounty: “Who we are never changes, who we think we are does.” Asajj Ventress finds herself teaming up with Boba Fett, Bossk and other bounty hunters in a mission that will determine what she will do next with her life. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Dave Filoni directed the Mandalore episodes this season and Jon Favreau returned to portray his character, Pre Vizsla. Seeing these episodes again makes me confident that “The Mandlorian” on Disney+ is in good hands with Filoni and Favreau. Kate Sackhoff appears as Bo-Katan, which she reprises in Star Wars: Rebels. Obi-Wan says that his codename will be Ben which he uses again in “A New Hope.” “Friends and Enemies” is the first time we see the Gamorrean Guards. Daniel Logan reprises his role as Boba Fett in “Deception.” Unfortunately, lying to Anakin about Obi-Wan’s death only lead him to be persuaded more by Chancellor Palpatine. In “Crisis On Naboo” during the Festival of Lights, one of the fireworks that Palpatine launches looks like the Star Wars opening crawl. Also, many characters with ties to Naboo can bee seen in the audience. “Massacre” is the first time we see Asajj Ventress since season three. This is also the first time we see the Night Sisters and Mother Talzin since the season three finale. While season three had some of the strongest stories, season four had the strongest animation. I would love a bit more magic and fantasy to return to Star Wars. There’s been too much of the “enemy lines” in Star Wars recently. Clare Grant, Meredith Salenger and Simon Pegg all guest star in “Bounty.” Daniel Logan is again Boba Fett (twice this week, only two times the entire season). Katie Lucas does a phenomenal job writing for Ventress. I am curious to see if Ventress will return for season seven since we know how her story ends with “Dark Disciple” and I wonder if Katie Lucas would even write any more episodes with her father not involved. I don’t like that the episode “Bounty” skips forward to where we see Ventress with a team again. The cantina band stops playing when Ventress kills a man. That gimmick is becoming super over-played but it makes it feel like Star Wars. Bossk and Dengar are both in the episode “Bounty.” It isn’t clear how Boba escaped prison but it must have occurred when Obi-Wan and Cad Bane broke out. BEST OF THE BATCH
My favorite episode this week was “Massacre” because it gave me another taste of voodoo magic and Ventress. The army of the undead was super cool and it lead into another great episode, “Bounty.” Plus, I know this helps set up next week’s RETURN OF DARTH MAUL. The troops attempt an attack strategy against the capital of Umbara. S4E8 The General: “The path of ignorance is guided by fear.” General Krell orders the 501st on a suicide mission. Captain Rex and the clone troopers must be flexible and use their ingenuity to defeat the Umbarians. S4E9 Plan of Dissent: “The Ignorant man follows, the wise man leads.” Several clone troopers disobey Krell and face his punishment. S4E10 Carnage of Krell: “Our actions define our legacy.” The troops arrest Krell for treason. S4E11 Kidnapped: “Where we are going always reflects where we came from.” The separatists bring Zygerrian slavers to the planet of Kiros and enslave an entire colony. Anakin and Ahsoka must defuse a series of bombs while Obi-Wan fights with the separatist leader. S4E12 Slaves of the Republic: “Those who enslave others inevitably become slaves themselves.” To find the missing Togruta colony, Anakin poses as a slaver with Ahsoka as his slave. S4E13 Escape from Kadavo: “Great hope can come from small sacrifices.” Anakin hopes to convince the Zygerrian Queen that she is a slave to the separatists. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker A Sarlac appears in “Darkness on Umbara.” The more I think about Dee Bradley Baker voicing all the troops, the more I am impressed by him. I don’t have much to say about the Umbara arc. Krell says “it’s treason then” echoing “Revenge of the Sith.” “Kidnapped” is the first time we see the planet Kiros, Ahsoka’s home world. Ahsoka is starting to learn more about Anakin’s background. Ricardo Mamood-Vega gust stars. Anakin salutes R2 to eject his lightsaber just like Luke does in “Return of the Jedi.” BEST OF THE BATCH
I really hated the Umbara arc and I wasn’t a fan of the “Slaves of the Republic” arc either. That said, the Zygerrians and the Togruta colony were more interesting and better designed than Umbara and Krell. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019.
