In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, in 2019, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+. The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S4E7 Darkness on Umbara: “The first step towards loyalty is trust.” Anakin is called back to Coruscant and his troops are left with a new general, Pong Krell, who is harsh and relentless. The troops attempt an attack strategy against the capital of Umbara. S4E8 The General: “The path of ignorance is guided by fear.” General Krell orders the 501st on a suicide mission. Captain Rex and the clone troopers must be flexible and use their ingenuity to defeat the Umbarians. S4E9 Plan of Dissent: “The Ignorant man follows, the wise man leads.” Several clone troopers disobey Krell and face his punishment. S4E10 Carnage of Krell: “Our actions define our legacy.” The troops arrest Krell for treason. S4E11 Kidnapped: “Where we are going always reflects where we came from.” The separatists bring Zygerrian slavers to the planet of Kiros and enslave an entire colony. Anakin and Ahsoka must defuse a series of bombs while Obi-Wan fights with the separatist leader. S4E12 Slaves of the Republic: “Those who enslave others inevitably become slaves themselves.” To find the missing Togruta colony, Anakin poses as a slaver with Ahsoka as his slave. S4E13 Escape from Kadavo: “Great hope can come from small sacrifices.” Anakin hopes to convince the Zygerrian Queen that she is a slave to the separatists. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker A Sarlac appears in “Darkness on Umbara.” The more I think about Dee Bradley Baker voicing all the troops, the more I am impressed by him. I don’t have much to say about the Umbara arc. Krell says “it’s treason then” echoing “Revenge of the Sith.” “Kidnapped” is the first time we see the planet Kiros, Ahsoka’s home world. Ahsoka is starting to learn more about Anakin’s background. Ricardo Mamood-Vega gust stars. Anakin salutes R2 to eject his lightsaber just like Luke does in “Return of the Jedi.” BEST OF THE BATCH
I really hated the Umbara arc and I wasn’t a fan of the “Slaves of the Republic” arc either. That said, the Zygerrians and the Togruta colony were more interesting and better designed than Umbara and Krell. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, in 2019, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+. The galaxy will be watching. S4E1 Water War: “When destiny calls, the chosen have no choice.” The Separatists take advantage of a change in leadership on the Mon Cala world. Prince Lee-Char isn’t accepted as the new leader when the king is assassinated. This creates a war between the Mon Calamari people and the Quarren. Padme, Anakin, Ahsoka and Kit Fisto bring aid to help the aquatic world under Lee-Char and Captain Ackbar’s guidance. S4E2 Gungan Attack: “Only through fire is a strong sword forged.” Ahsoka, Anakin, Padme and Kit Fisto fight back after being overrun by Riff Tamson and the Separatists. The Gungan Grand Army come to the aid of the Mon Cala people. S4E3 Prisoners: “Crowns are inherited, kingdoms are earned.” In the conclusion to this three-part arc, Lee-Char and Ahsoka must rescue Republic and Gungan forces. S4E4 Shadow Warrior: “Who a person truly is cannot be seen with the eye.” Boss Lyonie has ordered an attack on Naboo. However, when it is revealed that Lyonie has been tricked, he pulls out of the attack and Grievous isn’t happy. S4E5 Mercy Mission: “Understanding is honoring the truth beneath the surface.” The planet of Aleen is devastated by groundquakes. C-3PO and R2-D2 go to the planets underworld to help stop the destruction. S4E6 Nomad Droids: “Who’s the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?” C-3PO and R2-D2 continues their adventure on the world of the Patitites and are forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker “Water War” is the first time we see Ackbar in The Clone Wars. Ackbar says “It’s an attack” as a callback to “It’s a trap.” Always stating the obvious. Ahmed Best returns as Jar Jar in “Gungan Attack.” Boss Nass is absent from Naboo and instead Boss Lyonie is in charge. The new Queen or Naboo and Boss Lyonie are great characters that show how the world of Naboo is still changing in this war. Count Dooku reveals to Anakin that he was there during the events of “The Phantom Menace.” Clone Commander Wolffe returns in “Mercy Mission.” “Nomad Droids” is just Star Wars “Gulliver’s Travels.” BEST OF THE BATCH
According to Wookiepedia, “Mercy Mission” was the least watched episode of the series. I believe this to be true because I don’t remember the episode and was surprised at how gorgeous it was. The talking trees, Kindalo and Orphne were gorgeous. The stry continues in Nomad droids with another really cool species. It was a lot of fun just to focus on the two droids, so this arc was my favorite of the batch. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. May the Force be with you, always. REWATCH RECAP S3E18 The Citadel: “Adaptation is the key to survival.” When Jedi general Even Piell is captured, the gang must rescue him by breaking into the Citadel, a prison designed to keep Jedi from leaving. After storming the Citadel, Anakin meets the fleet officer, Captain Tarkin. S3E19 Counterattack: “Anything that can go wrong will.” Ahsoka, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Rex, Fives, Echo, Cody, R2-D2, Tarkin, and Even Piell must escape The Citadel. S3E20 Citadel Rescue: “Without honor, victory is hollow.” Obi-Wan and the rest of the rescue team are stranded on the Citadel. Their only hope is that the Jedi council will get to them in time. S3E21 Padawan Lost: “Without humility, courage is a dangerous game.” Ahsoka is trapped and hunted on a Trandoshan moon during the Battle of Felucia. Her and a group of abducted younglings must hide until they can be rescued. S3E22 Wookie Hunt: “A great student is what the teacher hopes to be.” Ahsoka receives help from a new ally, Chewbacca the Wookie. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker This is the first time we’ve seen carbon freezing since “The Empire Strikes Back.” Rex says that he doesn’t want to end up a wall decoration and we see an ugnaught. We are finally starting to see how much Anakin cares about Ahsoka. This makes his turn to the dark side even more devastating. Osi Sobeck is a new separatist villain in this episode. Tarkin makes his first appearance in “The Clone Wars” in “The Citadel.” As Tarkin and Anakin shake hands at the end of this arc, the Imperial March can be heard playing in the background. Even Piell dies in this episode which contradicts a legends non-canon novel. “Padawan Lost” is a great opportunity for Ahsoka to grow from youngling to Jedi. Peter Mayhew was brought in to help animate Chewbacca. BEST OF THE BATCH
Even though the Citadel Arc introduces Tarkin, the story is kind of boring. “Wookie Hunt,” the season finale, is the best episode of the batch. REWATCH RECAP S3E12 Nightsisters: “The swiftest path to destruction is through vengeance.” When Darth Sidious believes that Asajj Ventress is becoming too powerful, he orders Count Dooku to get rid of her. Surviving the attack, Ventress returns to Dathomir to enlist the help of her kin, the Nightsisters. After Ventress’ revenge plot fails, Dooku requests a new apprentice from the mystical Mother Talzin, from the same species as the infamous Darth Maul. S3E13 Monster: “Evil is not born it is taught.” Ventress selects Savage Opress from the distant Nightbrother village to be Dooku’s assassin. S3E14 Witches of the Mist: “The path to evil may bring great power, but not loyalty.” Obi-Wan and Anakin attempt to track down Savage Opress on Dathomir. Meanwhile, Count Dooku sends Opress to kill the Toydarian king. Ventress enacts her revenge. S3E15 Overlords: “Balance is found in the one who faces his guilt.” Landing on a mysterious world strong in the force, Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan have visions guided by ancient beings, The Father, The Daughter and The Son. S3E16 Altar of Mortis: “He who surrenders hope, surrenders life.” The Son tries to keep the Jedi trio on Mortis. He kidnaps Ahsoka and Ankin must protect her. Fearing the Son may be unstoppable, the daughter leads Obi-Wan to a weapon capable of killing a force-wielder. S3E17 Ghosts of Mortis: “He who seeks to control fate shall never find peace.” Secrets are revealed as Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Anakin attempt to get off Mortis. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker The best part of the Nightsisters arc is two-fold. The writers are realizing that some of the characters who aren’t in Episode III need to be gotten rid of. However, it is so much more satisfying to give a villain like Ventress a full arc rather than just kill them. Mother Talzin says, “men are easy to acquire, hard to control.” Sing it, sister. Or should I see Nightsister. Clancy Brown plays Savage Opress. Sam Witwer plays The Son. Liam Neeson and Pernilla August return as Qui-Gon Jinn and Shmi Skywalker in the episode “Overlords.” The Son says “Sister” like Vader does in the original trilogy. He also says “depending on your point of view in a similar way to how Obi-Wan says it. So many people put a lot of stock into the Mortis trilogy however, I think we haven’t seen the last of this place. BEST OF THE BATCH While the Nightsister trilogy and the Mortis trilogy are both equally great, I really love the episode “Monster,” if not only for the fight scene at the end where Savage Opress kills an entire clone unit and two Jedi. It’s wonderful. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. May the Force be with you, always.
