In 2008, George Lucas and Dave Filoni opened up the world of Star Wars like it had never been done before by telling stories that stem directly from The Clone Wars that were first mentioned in the original Star Wars film in 1977. In 2005, fans finally got a glimpse of the clones, but the war was completely glossed over. For just over five years, the story was fleshed out in a 3D animated series “The Clone Wars.” Now, we are awaiting the next chapter of these wars when they air on Disney+ in February 2020. The galaxy will be watching. Following the epic season five saga that saw Darth Maul's rise, command of Mandalore, and fall against Darth Sidious, "Son of Dathomir" is a limited comic book run that sees Darth Maul on the run from Sidious, Grievous and Count Dooku. We see the end of Mother Talzin and watch as Maul becomes a crime lord working in the shadows. This leads up to "Solo: A Star Wars Story." "Dark Disciple" is another batch of episodes that didn't get to see the light. However, it feels very natural to have this story told in book form. Asaj Ventress has fallen from Count Dooku's grace and when she is hired by the Jedi Order to take part in an assassination attempt towards Dooku, However, this story sees Ventress fall in love and brings her story to a close. Still, I hope we see at least a cameo from Ventress in season seven. "Ahsoka" is set after the fall of the republic and deals with Ahsoka on the run from the empire. She grieves the fallen Jedi and eventually becomes essential to the rise of The Rebellion. The prelude of this novel is set during the Siege of Mandalore which we expect to see in its full form in February when Ahsoka returns to "The Clone Wars." "Thrawn: Alliances" is the sequel in a trilogy of Thrawn novels by Timothy Zahn. While half of this novel takes place during the height of The Empire, the half has Anakin, Padme and Thrawn on a mission at the edge of the galaxy, Batuu. This does well at connecting "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars: Rebels." Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always.

The galaxy will be watching. REWATCH RECAP S6E8 The Disappeared “Without darkness there can be no light.” Jar Jar is summoned to the peaceful world of Bardotta to stop its spiritual leaders from vanishing. Mace Windu accompanies Binks to the planet where Jar Jar reconnects with an old friend. S6E9 The Disappeared Part 2: “Wisdom is born in fools as well as wise men.” Jar Jar goes after Queen Julia upon her disappearance. S6E10 The Lost One: “What is lost is often found.” Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas went missing before the blockade of Naboo. Sifo-Dyas was crucial to creating an army for the republic. Now his ship has been found with no body inside. S6E11 Voices: “Madness can sometimes be the path to truth.” Yoda is contacted by the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn. The Jedi council worries that this is a trick from the dark side however, Yoda follows the voice to Dagobah where he learns the name of the Sith Lord. S6E12 Destiny: “Death is just the beginning.” Yoda’s journey continues as he is tested by the Priestesses of the force. Yoda faces his inner demons and desires. S6E13 Sacrifice: “Facing all that you fear will free you from yourself.” Yoda’s final destination is the Sith Homeworld of Moraband where he must face The Dark Side like never before. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker The Jar Jar episodes are based off of Indiana Jones. Mother Talzin is in the episode although her motivations are unclear. Possibly a last ditch effort to become powerful again. She is next seen in the “Son of Dathomir” comic. In “The Lost One” the Jedi find out that the Clone army was created by Darth Tyranus and Master Sifo-Dyas. This is the first time that they learn that Darth Tyranus is actually Count Dooku. The Jedi decide to cover up this fact and play the Sith’s game, which eventually leads to the Jedi’s fall. Liam Neeson returns as Qui-Gon Jinn again. Yoda can be seen meditating in the Jedi courtyard near the force tree. Yoda recounts the events of Mortis. I loved the animation of the time-lapse while the Jedi meditated. We also get to see Dagobah which is tying the series more closely to the original trilogy. This is the second time we get to see the Jedi temple guards which play a role in “Rebels.” R2 was with Yoda when he traveled to Dagobah. The things that R2 knows is fascinating and I hope that comes into play in “Rise of Skywalker.” In Yoda’s vision he sees Mace Windu being electrocuted by Darth Sidious and the fall of the Jedi. This is only one of three times we have seen a force vision from the cave on Dagobah. Mark Hamill guest stars as Darth Bane. Jaime King is the voice of the Priestesses. Yoda comes face to face with the darkness inside him. Sacrifice is the first appearance of Moraband, the Sith Homeworld. Ahsoka is only seen in one scene this entire season. She is seen alongside other fallen Padawans. It’s heartbreaking to know that Yoda longs for peace and to see Obi-Wan, Dooku and Qui-Gon together again. We learn more about Darth Bane and the rule of two. Darth Sidious uses a dark magic that we see again in "Rebels." Yoda is told that there is another Skywalker and he hopes to win the overall battle if not the Clone Wars. The season ends like season five with a quiet wipe. I hope season seven does too. Maybe season seven will connect to The Rise of Skywalker. BEST OF THE BATCH
The obvious MVP of this batch, this season, and maybe even the entire series is the Yoda Arc. It is essential viewing for any Star Wars fan, and it is so important to the lore, the story and the Skywalker Saga. The episodes are so dense with force visions and prophecy. It’s everything a fan could have wanted. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. May the Force be with you, always. REWATCH RECAP S6E1 The Unknown “The truth about yourself is the hardest to accept.” After a clone trooper named Tup assassinates a Jedi master, the clone is taken back to Kamino to undergo analyzation and determine if any other clones are affected by this “virus.” S6E2 Conspiracy: “The wise benefit from a second opinion.” Tup is decommissioned and Fives is determined to get to the bottom of a secret buried deep in the clone’s programming. S6E3 Fugitive: “When in doubt, go to the source.” Fives discovers the truth of Order 66. S6E4 Orders: “The popular belief isn’t always the correct one.” Fives learns that the secret of the clone’s inhibitor chips goes all the way to the top. S6E5 An Old Friend: “To love, is to trust. To trust is to believe.” Padme is called upon by Rush Clovis to help uncover corruption in the Banking Clan. S6E6 The Rise of Clovis: “Jealousy is the path to chaos.” Clovis makes a deal that puts him at the head of the Banking Clan. Anakin’s jealousy strains his relationship with Padme. S6E7 Crisis at the Heart: “Deceit is the weapon of greed.” War comes to Scipio and the banking clan falls. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker Season six of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” was released on Netflix on March 7, 2014. This was the first appearance of Admiral Trench since the beginning of the series. Tim Curry is now the voice of Chancellor Palpatine and it sounds a little weird. This is the first time we learn the extent of who knew about Order 66. The character appearances are nearly identical to “Revenge of the Sith” at this point. The banking clan episodes show how fragile the galaxy has become. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019. The final season of “The Clone Wars” airs February 2020. S5E18 Jedi Who Knew Too Much: “Courage begins by trusting oneself.” Ahsoka is sabotages for the Jedi temple bombing. S5E19 To Catch a Jedi: “Never become desperate enough to trust the untrustworthy.” Ahsoka is a fugitive on the run. S5E20 The Wrong Jedi: “Never give up hope, no matter how dark things seem.” Ahsoka faces a senate trial. CONNECTING THE CANON #CloneWarsSaved to #RiseOfSkywalker In “Sabotage” the boiling point to this war is starting. Opposition against the clones and the Jedi have people rioting in the streets. The Jedi guards, Tooka cats and more can be seen in this batch of episodes. These are all elements that return in “Star Wars: Rebels.” Tarkin and Ventress both return for these episodes. The Republic looks nearly identical to the Empire at this point. Ahsoka’s story is what makes “The Clone Wars” perfect. Fans don’t deserve her. We can see that the Jedi and the Sith aren’t so black and white. BEST OF THE BATCH When scheduling out this rewatch I wanted to make sure that Ahsoka’s initial finale, her arc, wasn’t pushed up against any other stories. These last four episodes are so strong and important to the last decade of Star Wars storytelling. Back in 2013 we thought this was the end of The Clone Wars. No one expected it to come back with a season six and now the upcoming seventh season. Back in 2013, we thought this was the end of Ahsoka. Then she returned in a novel, in “Rebels” and in multiple stories. We had a lot of unanswered questions, but no one could deny that this ending was emotional and perfectly contrived. The entire batch is great, but there is no scene more inspired than the last shot of Ahsoka walking away from the Jedi Order. Disney+ launches in the United States on November 12, 2019.
